Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC)

The Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) is a master developer and regulator of ports and industrial zones. Its purpose is to create a sustainable growth platform that spurs economic expansion and diversification for Abu Dhabi by developing world-class infrastructure, real estate and business services in conjunction with the private sector. ADPC has been mandated to develop all ports (with the exception of oil & gas and military ports) and related infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

ADPC will develop and incubate new companies that service and operate in the ports and zones sector. An example of this is Abu Dhabi Terminals, a Joint Venture company between ADPC and Mubadala, which is responsible for all port terminal operations in the Emirate. Another such entity is the industrial zone operating company which will be responsible for operating and marketing the heavy industries zone. ADPC aims to create various such entities in order to serve the needs of its customers. These subsidiaries and alliances may span the following range of services and operations: zone operators, port terminal operators, utility operators, real estate developers, education and training operators, logistics operators, value added service operators and several others.

ADPC is currently working on the development of the multi-billion dollar Khalifa Port and Industrial Zone (KPIZ) in Taweelah. KPIZ will be a multi-purpose facility located in Taweelah and strategically placed between the thriving cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The project includes the construction of a world-scale container and industrial port and the development of over 100 square kilometers of industrial, logistics, commercial, educational and residential special economic and free zones.
Master plans for KPIZ are in final stages with a target operational date for the port planned for the end of 2010. The infrastructure supporting the port as well as the first phase of the industrial zone, including the 1.3 million tons aluminium smelter, will also be operational by this time.KPIZ caters to a number of industries including:

  • Base Metal
  • Heavy Machinery
  • Transport vehicle assembly
  • Chemicals
  • Shipyards
  • Building materials
  • Processed foods and beverages
  • Light manufacturing
  • Information and communication technology
  • Alternative energy
  • Trade and Logistics

KPIZ is ideally suited to become a world-class industrial and logistics hub. It is strategically located with easy access to two major ports as well as two major airports. KPIZ will be serviced by the new Emirates rail line and transversed by state-of-the art roads and highways. The area will include the large scale development of specialized logistics and storage warehouses and have access to the most modern broadband ICT ubiquitous infrastructure. With a number of major industrial players already committed to establishing capacity at KPIZ, the Taweelah area is set to become one of the world’s top industrial and logistics hubs.
